These are incredibly useful skills that can make your music teaching life a lot easier - no matter which age group you teach or whether you’re a general classroom teacher, a band/orchestra/choir teacher or a private studio teacher.

During this “have-a-go” challenge, you will learn a bite-sized skill each day:

  • remove a section from a video and add a fade-in and fade-out
  • notate a simple song in notation software
  • screen record a music site and make it sound great
  • the magic of MIDI! Transform your Song Maker (or other site) creation in a digital audio workstation
You can earn 5 digital badges which are verified, embedded with linked evidence and designed to be shared with your admin, colleagues or prospective employers! PLUS if you complete all 5 during the challenge period, you’ll also earn a professional development certificate of attendance.

This challenge is designed for ALL music teachers and will take place in a pop-up Facebook Group. Each of the 5 skills will be explained in daily pre-recorded video tutorials that you can watch as many times as you need during the challenge period. It’s very beginner-friendly and no prior knowledge is assumed! Plus - personalized help and support from friendly music tech experts will also be available throughout the entire challenge.

When does the challenge take place?
Here are the important dates:
  •  Pop-up Facebook Group opens 19 June 2025
  • The 5 challenge tasks will be published daily from 23-27 June 2025 (but you don’t need to keep up with the daily schedule!)
  • You will have access to the challenge Facebook Group until 4 July 2025

Who is this 5-day challenge for?
This challenge is suitable for music teachers of all types - elementary, middle school, and high school teachers, private studio teachers and ensemble leaders.

What’s involved with the challenge?
The aim of this challenge is to teach you some incredibly useful tech skills “you wished you knew but were too afraid to ask” 😀. Each day will involve a mini assignment: you’ll learn a simple tech skill, complete the task (they’re straightforward - I promise!) and we’ll award you with a digital badge which is verified, embedded with linked evidence and designed to be shared with your admin, colleagues or prospective employers. Complete all 5 skills and you’ll ALSO receive a professional development certificate of attendance.

What will I need to take part in the challenge?
You’ll need to have a Mac or PC laptop/desktop computer, or a Chromebook, plus internet access.

We will use free software/apps during the challenge and registered participants will be given more information closer to the challenge start date.

Do I need to watch the tutorials live at a specific time? What if I fall behind?
No - all tutorials and other materials are pre-recorded so you can watch at any time that suits you, your time zone and your other commitments! You do not need to complete each task every day - you can work at your own pace. You will have access to the challenge materials until 4 July so if you need to take your time, you can.

What if I’m not on Facebook?
In addition to hosting the Facebook group, we’ll also be running the challenge inside the Midnight Music Membership Community where all the content will be posted and questions will be answered daily inside our private forum. A special 14-day FREE trial membership link will be available just before the challenge begins so that you can maximise the trial time during the challenge period!

What will happen after the challenge ends?
After the pop-up Facebook Group closes, all the challenge videos and other content will be available on an on-going basis inside the Midnight Music Membership Community (challenge participants will be warmly invited to join!).

If you’re already a Midnight Music Community member, you will be able to access the challenge content inside our Training Library from the start of the challenge, with no deadlines.

Can I get a professional development certificate for this training?
Yes - if you complete all 5 during the challenge period (from 23 June until the Facebook Group closes on 4 July), you’ll earn a professional development certificate of attendance. You will also earn 5 digital badges which are verified, embedded with linked evidence and designed to be shared with your admin, colleagues or prospective employers!
